Alan Richmond's CV
- I and my wife operate Curious Minds, an online shop selling various science-related products, especially toys, gifts, and educational kits. I advise customers on appropriate products and how to use them. I have developed a couple of products which we now make and sell.
- We also operate ScienceZine.net, an online science encyclopedia and magazine. I wrote most of the articles.
- I own a private physics museum and laboratory with about 150 items, e.g. vintage books, bunsen burners, gas law apparatuses, resistance boxes, galvanometers, Tesla coils, Wimshurst machines, Van de Graaff generators, induction coils, etc. (PhysicsMuseum.co.uk).
- Experienced in working with scientists at major scientific research projects, e.g. (Hubble) Space Telescope Science Institute, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, European Southern Observatory, Joint European Torus (nuclear fusion), Max Planck Institute of Plasma Physics, European Synchrotron Radiation Facility.
- I was a software developer for the above projects. I have published several papers on software development. I have spoken and lectured at several international conferences on scientific software development, and web design and development.
- I was a Principal Systems Engineer, team leader, and web developer at NASA/GSFC. I later founded the Web Developer's Virtual Library, the web's first commercial web site for web developers, and EncycloZine, the web's first XHTML site.
